TM Alpha

The TM Alpha is designed for Alpha Racing, which is racing across the wind and back to the point where you started, requiring course angles between 75 and 105 degrees to the wind.

To achieve these qualities, The TM Alpha utilises some of the features developed on the TM45 Vario foil to produce a massive drag bucket allowing the fin to operate almost permanently at a super efficient level, even at moderate speeds when exiting turns and under extreme loads when sailing at a tight angle to the wind.

The foil design on the TM Alpha is not the same as the TM45 or TM Speed but is similar in concept. The key differences are that the TM Alpha has lower optimum speed and a fatter drag bucket, achieved with a thicker section and a longer chord length. One characteristic of the TM Alpha is that it has a minimum speed where it  "switches on" around 12 knots. This is the speed where it drops into the drag bucket. In reasonable racing conditions it means the fin will race through a turn with less drag helping to achieve higher exit speed and improved Alpha Racing results

At the other end of the performance spectrum, cavitation on the TM Alpha should occur at around 42 knots on a broad course and 40 knots on a tight course. This is not a speed fin but on a windy day and full throttle, it will more than impress with its top speed, particularly square to the wind. At these angles 40 knots is about as fast as anyone is capable of going, even in perfect water conditions. The TM Alpha will make that sort of speed more likely by being able to produce a usable drag bucket even in the choppy or open water conditions these fins will likely be used in.

The TM Alpha is still under development and is not currently available.

Benefits

The key benefits of the TM Alpha are:

Design optimised for Alpha Racing
Huge lift over a range of speeds to improve acceleration and performance across the wind
A very fat drag bucket at operating speeds to reduce drag to a minimum
Optimal rake for control at speed and reducing flex
Resistant to spinout so can be pushed harder in the chop
Maintains a drag bucket in a wide variety of water conditions
